It is made from \u003cem\u003ekaya\u003c\/em\u003e (蚊帳) fabric, the open-weave cloth long used in Japan for mosquito nets, and printed with large flowers in yellow or navy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLayered seven times, the gauze is absorbent, quick to dry and hard-wearing, a cloth for drying dishes and glasses and wiping down the table.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cloth arrives stiff with starch.
