These TAKEJISAKU karikomi shears with a black tip-to-handle finish are handmade and hand sharpened by the 3rd and 4th generation father and son team of Takeo and Daisuke Tajika, who also manufacture the TAjiKA range of scissors and shears.
Karesansui (枯山水) is a distinctive Japanese 'dry landscape' garden style using rock, sand, shaped shrubs and moss. The trees and shrubs are sculpted into curved shapes using the karikomi (刈込み) technique. Various tools kan be used, including these one-handed karikomi shears, that cut as smooth as a pair of scissors. They can be used for any type of pruning where you want to shape smaller branches and leaves. They come with a leather holster and oil for blade care, to make sure you can keep on pruning year-after-year.
TAKEJISAKU is the original brand of TAjiKA HARUO Scissor Works, which was founded in 1938 by Takeji Tajika, who manufactured tailor shears and other special purpose scissors on order. He was succeeded by Haruo Tajika during a time when scissor makers were still commonplace in Ono, Hyōgo
Prefecture and who pioneered many new scissor designs. Now 3rd and 4th generation father and son team Takeo and Daisuke Tajika work together to craft a wide variety of scissors one by one, by hand. Their range includes garden snips, karikomi shears (for topiary style garden styling), tailor shears, kitchen scissors and bonsai branch and root cutters. TAKEJISAKU is the original family brand and used for their range of original shears and scissors, while TAjiKA, launched by Daisuke Tajika, is a new brand for a newly designed range of products. The Tajika family has established itself as a globally recognised name which produces household tools that are not a casual purchase, but become part of a person's life.
