Dimensions: 40cm (diameter) x 8cm (H).
This round floor cushion has a top made of natural Japanese igusa rush, the same as used to make traditional tatami flooring. The tatami has been dyed using natural dyes, and woven to showcase a vibrant pattern. It offers a sturdy cushion to use on the floor, or even on a chair where extra height is needed. It is also easy to stack. The stuffing is from memory foam, so maintains its shape and stiffness during and after use.
Igusa has many unique properties. The overlapping honeycomb-like hexagonal structures found inside each stalk allows igusa to absorb formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide and unwanted odours. Igusa is also a deodorizer as it contains phytoncides - antimicrobial organic compounds - which emit a natural, grassy fragrance, to freshen the air. Igusa is 2.5 times as moisture absorbent as cotton.
The edges and bottom are covered with blue Japanese denim. It is part of the Ikehiko D-Style range, in collaboration with Kaihara Denim, established in 1893 in Japan. Its motto is: "tenderness of a cotton and forcibleness of indigo".
The motto of IKEHIKO Co. is to “make life delightful”. The company is based in Fukuoka Prefecture and was established in 1886. IKEHIKO specialises in home applications for igusa, the Japanese rush used in homes for centuries. The company's products convey igusa's traditional charms, while being suited to contemporary lifestyles and modern homes. The IKEHIKO X KAIHARA DENIM range is a collaboration which offers contemporary tatami and denim products to modern homes.
