The KAKURI hira kanna or regular sized Smoothing Plane is 75mm wide by 255mm long with a 58mm wide blade. It is used for smoothing and trimming of wood and cuts on the pull stroke. An aogami blue steel blade ensures a sturdy and sharp cutting edge, and it includes a chip breaker which keeps the blade in place through compression. The blade is adjusted using a wooden mallet. The wooden body of the plane is made of Japanese White Oak.
The blade can be sharpened or replacements blades can be bought separately.
