Shoji Paper - Kiwame Naobē - 94 cm × 15 m
A roll of plain shoji paper, shōji-gami (障子紙), wide enough to cover a whole Japanese-sized panel in one sheet. One 94 cm × 15 m roll covers eight shoji panels without a wooden kick panel.
Kiwame Naobē (極め直兵衛) is made by ONAO (大直) of Yamanashi, and is a paper blend perfected for easy hanging. It is a thick grade that is strong, easy to hang and easy to remove, takes paste well and cuts cleanly with a craft knife for a neat finish. By the maker's own test it is about three times as strong as the average of several newspapers.
The paper softens the light and cuts UV, which helps protect a room from sun fading. It is rolled with the smooth face outwards, and that face goes on the outside of the room.
Fix it with a shoji paste to a wooden frame. Remove the old paper and paste first, and let the frame dry fully before papering.

ONAO (大直) is a washi maker in Ichikawamisato, Yamanashi Prefecture, in the paper town of Ichikawa Daimon. In 1960 it moved from hand-made to machine-made washi and began selling paper under the 大直 name, and it became a limited company in 1974. The name is the top grade of shoin paper, 大直, above 中直 and 小直.
