Shoji Paste - Stain-Blocking - 150g
Asahipen's one-touch shoji paste with an added resin and lye blocker, yani-aku-dome (ヤニ・アク止め), for older wooden frames.
When fresh paste soaks into an old frame, its moisture can draw lye, aku, out of the wood, and yellow stains appear on the new paper along the bars. Asahipen advises washing the frame and letting it dry fully before papering, and where the staining is bad, using a paste with a lye blocker such as this one. It also contains an anti-mould agent and no formalin, and goes on straight from the pack through its guide nozzle, without a brush.
It is for paper. It cannot be used for plastic shoji sheet fixed with double-sided tape, or for iron-on or self-adhesive fusuma paper, and may not hold on some plastic or aluminium frames. Before papering, remove the old paper, wipe away old paste and let the frame dry fully. After use, seal the pack and store it out of direct sun and away from temperatures of 5 °C or below.
