2.5-Ply Gauze Scarf Towel

Made from 100% organic cotton in Osaka, Japan, the 2.5-Ply Gauze Towel is neither 2- nor 3-ply. Instead, the middle layer of a traditional 20-count 3-ply gauze is replaced with a 1/2-weight weave. Combined with this, an irregular weave is used. The result is an uniquely textured towel, which is lighter, softer and quick to dry, while still being highly absorbent. It comes in towel sizes, as well as scarf , tea towel and wash cloth designs and sizes.

Care Instructions

Proper washing and drying will preserve the texture, softness and superior absorbency of your SHINTO TOWEL, while also reducing environmental impact. Excessive heat, particularly hot washing and tumble drying, can cause cotton fibres to shrink and harden over time. We recommend these steps:

• Wash at low temperatures, up to 40°C, to prevent fibre damage, shrinkage, loss of softness and colour fading.
• Do not use chlorine bleach.
• Avoid excessive use of fabric softeners, as these reduce absorbency and damage cotton fibres.
• Wash coloured and white towels separately, especially during the first few washes, to prevent colour transfer.
• Use a low spin speed (around 800 rpm) to reduce friction, distortion and wear.
• Gently stretch and flap the towel after washing to help maintain its shape and fluffiness.
• Hang to dry in a shady, well-ventilated area whenever possible.

SHINTO TOWEL products are loosely woven and low-density, allowing them to dry quickly without tumble drying.

• If tumble drying is necessary, use a low-heat or gentle setting only.
• For gauze pilling, do not cut; gently pull and stretch the towel to restore the fibres.
• For terry pile pilling, do not pull; carefully trim with scissors.

This care approach will help your towel age beautifully and perform as intended over many years of use.

SHINTO TOWEL Co., Ltd. is based in the Senshu region of Osaka, which is known for towel making. The company was established in 1907 and strives to preserve traditional production techniques in making the best quality Senshu towels.

Senshu towels are known for the use of atozarashi – a post-weave refining process, which reduces starch found in the fibres, thereby improving absorbency while preserving fluffiness.

The company still uses and maintains half-century old looms, since these allow the towel artisans more freedom to experiment, create new features and make adjustments as necessary.
