Natural sharpening stone from South African claystone. Each stone is unique in terms of size, weight, shape and grit. Each stone is packaged in cloth, in a wooden box.
Cape Natural Stones are shaped from Table Mountain range claystone, each individually selected for their consistency, fine grit and beauty. Their medium-to-hard grades make them ideal middle and finishing – naka-to and shiage-to – stones. These natural stones dish more slowly than their modern, synthetic counterparts, and last much longer. Cut parallel to the sedimentary layers, the stone’s face is of uniform grit size and offers an even, high-quality sharpening surface. The natural flaws in the claystone, its variability and inclusions, augment its beauty with the imperfect perfection of wabi-sabi. Here is a history of time and place, a history of tradition, expressed in a single stone.
Please note: The image provided here is indicative of what the natural stone will look like, but each stone will be different.
