Hōjicha Powder - Roasted Green Tea - First Flush
All the warmth and aroma of Jack Farm's hōjicha, in a powder that dissolves instantly and makes a beautiful latte.
Jack Farm's First Flush hōjicha takes the roasted first-flush leaves from Wazuka, grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, one step further. The resulting finely ground powder carries everything that makes the loose-leaf hōjicha distinctive - the toasted hazelnut fragrance, the warm nutty sweetness, the green-leaf freshness beneath the roast - with none of the steeping time and none of the straining. This is because the powder dissolves completely into liquid, it integrates fully with hot water or milk, producing a richer, more immediate expression of the hōjicha character. The amber colour deepens, the aroma is more concentrated, and the texture has a gentle body. It is especially suited to lattes, where the roasted sweetness of hōjicha pairs naturally with the softness of steamed milk.
Like all roasted teas, it is naturally low in caffeine, and therefore an unhurried drink for any time of day, and particularly good in the evening.
How to Prepare
- As tea: Whisk 4g of powder into 30cc of hot water (80–90°C) until fully dissolved and smooth. Drink as is or dilute to taste.
- As a latte: Whisk 4g of powder into 30cc of hot water to form a concentrate, then add 150cc of steamed or warm milk. Works equally well with plant-based milk.
- As iced houjicha: Dissolve 4g in a small amount of hot water, then pour over ice and add cold milk for an iced houjicha latte.
