Matcha Bowl - Ido-utsushi Chawan - Loquat Glaze

A deep bowl made to one of the oldest conventions in the Japanese tea room: ido-utsushi (井戸写し).

The glaze is biwa-iro (枇杷色), the pale yellow-brown of a loquat, covered throughout by a fine crackle, kannyū (貫入), and deepening to a warm scorched brown around the lower body.

The glaze at the foot has drawn back into a shrunken, beaded crust, kairagi (梅花皮), an effect that happens in the kiln. Inside the foot ring the trimming spirals to a small raised point, tokin (兜巾). The foot itself stands with some height, cut in the take-no-fushi (竹節) manner, after the joint of a bamboo stem.
