Reflections on Japan - A Photo Talk | 30 July 2026
Join travel writer and photographer Toast Coetzer for an evening slideshow and talk reflecting on the WAZA & Friends visit to Tōhoku & Hokkaidō in Northern Japan, which took place in May 2026.
Drawing on his photographs taken during the trip, Toast will showcase a visual record of places visited during green spring, people encountered, and everyday moments observed along the way. Having travelled across many African countries, Toast will also reflect on the challenges and rewards of photographing while travelling, and how he experiences Japan through the lens.
Complimentary green tea will be served. The event is informal, with opportunity for engagement and discussion. Botha Kruger, founder of WAZA, will be available to provide insights on Japan travel and share information on WAZA's travel services.
The event is free.
Please note: WAZA Japan Store has limited capacity and therefore advance reservation is required. While there will be some seating available, attendees might be required to stand.

Speaker Profile
Toast Coetzer is a travel writer and photographer who has worked for Weg and Go magazines for much of the past 20 years. He also acts as a co-host on tours all over Africa, including Namibia (Damaraland, Kaokoveld), Kenya (Maasai Mara) and Rwanda (mountain gorillas, Nyungwe forest), and leads hands-on photographic tours to local destinations like the Karoo and Richtersveld. In 2025 Toast teamed up with WAZA to co-host the WAZA & Friends visits to Japan.
