Only left in stock

A teapot that makes watching the brew as pleasurable as drinking it.

Mieru (見える) means simply "to be visible". The heat-resistant glass body lets you watch the tea leaves open and unfurl in the water, observe the colour deepen as the infusion develops, and judge the strength precisely without lifting the lid.

The lid is Hasami ware porcelain, glazed in warm mustard yellow, hand-finished with the subtle variation in glaze that characterises the kiln work of Nagasaki's Hasami region.

The spout is a wide, open pour channel which lets the water flows cleanly and decisively, with good cut-off at the end of the pour, and no dripping back onto the lid or table. The cylindrical stainless steel strainer sits inside the body as a full-height basket, giving tea leaves generous room to expand and infuse freely. Remove it entirely for loose leaf teas once the time is up, as well as for tea bags.

The strainer lifts straight out for rinsing, and the entire set - body, lid, and strainer - is dishwasher safe.

Care instructions

  • Dishwasher safe for routine cleaning.
  • For microwave use, remove the ceramic lid and stainless strainer first - body only.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes: do not pour boiling water into a cold glass body; warm it first with a little hot water.
  • Handle the ceramic lid with care, as it is subject to the same thermal shock risks as any fired ceramic.

------------------------------------------------

Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasamiyaki) is produced in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, and has a production history stretching back over four hundred years. Historically one of Japan's most prolific ceramic regions, Hasami built its reputation on producing well-crafted, practical ceramics for everyday use - the kind of ware that was made to be used rather than displayed. It remains associated with clean forms, considered glazes, and the kind of quality that holds up over time. The mustard lid on the Mieru teapot draws on this tradition: a small ceramic piece that carries the characteristic warmth and finish variation of Hasami's kiln work, here in dialogue with contemporary glass and stainless construction.

------------------------------------------------

Yoshimura Co., Ltd. was founded in 1932 in Tokyo, with its core business in the design, manufacture, and sale of food packaging materials, specialising in Japanese tea and seaweed. The company has spent nearly a century at the intersection of Japanese tea culture and the craft of presenting it - developing packaging that communicates the character of a tea as much as it protects it. Their philosophy treats packaging not as a cost but as a tool: one that creates new demand and shapes how products are experienced.

From that deep familiarity with how tea is sold, stored, and served, Yoshimura has developed an original line of tea accessories, of which the Mieru glass pot is part. The Mieru sits within a product philosophy built on the same values as their packaging work: thoughtful design, honest materials, and a clear understanding of how people actually interact with tea in daily life.
